Chris Childs – Board of Finance

I have served on the Board of Finance (BOF) for the last eight years.  I bring to the board over 37 years of financial experience.  I was a commercial lending officer for 19 years and have been an investment manager for the past 18 years.  I am currently a Senior Vice President with People’s United Bank in Hartford.

While serving on the Board of Finance, I have worked diligently to ensure that our voters needs for town services are heard, and that we balance these needs with fiscal responsibility.  I have actively promoted a consistent and thoughtful use of low cost tax exempt financing to fund major capital projects.  This allows the cost and tax burden to be fairly distributed over the useful life of the asset and not be borne by only the current tax payers.   I have worked to improve the management of town funds to enhance investment income and help keep tax increases in check.  I have also done this on the Retirement Commission as the Board of Finance representative.
Members of my family have willingly served the town of Suffield for many generations. I am pleased to carry on this tradition of public service.  I hope you will support my candidacy for another four year term.
